Press conference for presentation of technical specifications HD Book SAT at SatExpo Europe 2010. 04/02/2010

In the context of the SatExpo Europe 2010 exhibition, in the fairgrounds of Nuova  Fiera di Roma, on February 4  a press conference took place, to present the volume HD Book SAT, containing technical specifications for digital satellite receivers in high definition destined to the open sector of the Italian market.  The volume has been produced, in the framework of an agreement between HD Forum Italia and the Tivù consortium, by a joint group including experts from either organisations. The specifications foresee functions  similar to those recommended in the volume HD Book DTT devoted to digital terrestrial reception, namely the presence of the interactive platform MHP, the inclusion of a return channel and of a CAS enabled to accept the different encryption standard selected by major Italian national broadcasters (embedded for decoders and CI Plus based for iDTVs).

The required return channel  is broadband and devoted not only to interactive applciations, but also for accessing audio-video contents from the network, via IP protocol (Broad Band Addendum to DVB). The volume also represents an important technical contribution to the progress of digital transition in Italy, as it addresses specifications of satellite receivers for the open market, that are replacing analog terrestrial reception for  those areas in the country that are not viable for upgrading to digital terrestrial transmission.
